Mayoral inauguration to be a musical affair

Annise Parker will be sworn in as Houston’s mayor Saturday in a private ceremony at City Hall. But Monday will be her official inauguration with an early ceremony at Wortham Center followed by her first city council meeting as Mayor. The by-invitation-only ceremony at Wortham Center has very limited seating, so Parker’s campaign has organized a free public concert and celebration at Discovery Green Monday evening. The line-up of entertainers is still up in the air,  but we hear the acts have a definite Houston vibe. Hint: Get ready to do the “Tighten Up.“ We’ll let you know as soon as they are confirmed.

Over the weekend, Parker is also hosting a dinner for top donors to her campaign at the home of Rice University president David Leebron. Parker is the first Rice graduate to be elected mayor of Houston.
