Hire Houston First Passes!

I am so happy to announce today that our Hire Houston First ordinance was passed overwhelmingly by City Council. This is great news for Houston families and our local economy.

Hire Houston First is a common-sense plan to ensure that our local tax dollars are spent in our local community as much as possible.

When choosing contractors and purchasing goods and services, the City of Houston will give a preference to local firms. Those companies and workers will spend much of that money on goods and services in our area, generating more economic activity that then generates more jobs, more local spending and more tax revenue for the city.

For example, this multiplier effect means that $1.00 in infrastructure spending can bring up to $2.50 in value to our local economy.

In these tough times, we should be doing all we can to create new jobs and keep Houstonians working. I am proud to say that Hire Houston First will do just that.
