Houston Airports Growing

Saturday, October 15, 2011

Houston’s airports are a major part of our regional economy and their impact is growing.

A new study just released by the Houston Airport System reports that our three airports—Bush Intercontinental, Hobby and Ellington—contributed $27.6 billion to the economy in our region in 2010.  It’s an increase of 14 percent since the last survey in 2005.

The study finds that the airports are responsible for the equivalent of about 250,000 jobs, including employees at the airports, spending by visitors who come to Houston via air travel and money circulated through our economy as workers spend their paychecks on their homes, food, clothing and more.

The survey was conducted by GRA, Inc. with assistance from University of Houston economist Stephen Craig.
