Thank you!
I do love this city!
Thank you for giving me another two years in this job. I am still excited to go to work every day. I look forward to what you and I and our City Council can accomplish these next two years. We have a lot to do.
I salute everyone who ran for office in this election. I know how difficult that is. Win or lose, you cared enough to put yourself out there. You cared about your community. You exemplify what Dr. Martin Luther King said: “Life’s most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” For me, politics comes down to that: serving others.
I thank the voters of Houston and the thousands of donors, hundreds of volunteers and tens of thousands of supporters who made this success possible. I thank my campaign team for helping me win two more years at this job I love. I thank my City Hall staff for their hard work these past two years. I thank the City Council and Controller who have all worked together to tackle the tough issues we have faced.
And, last but certainly not least, I thank my family, without whose love and indulgence I could not do this job.
The election is not over. Some City Council seats are in runoffs. I urge everyone to get involved with the candidates of their choice in these races and vote in the runoff election.
Thank you, Houston!
